I booked some much needed time off from work, to get away from the stress and have some zen time away from it all. I'm lucky to have a very supportive wife, and we always try and ensure that each other gets a bit of a time out once in a while. This time round, a solo camping trip was definitely in order.

I left home around mid morning on a Monday, and hit the freeway. A few hours later (and a couple of detours to explore) I wound up at my first destination: Canal Rocks.

I've been down to this region a lot in the past, but have never made it out to Canal Rocks. Last time I tried, it was closed due to storm damage to the small bridge that provides an excellent vantage point to the waves crashing over the rocks. It's well worth visiting if you have the time, and is only 15 minutes outside of Yallingup, off of Caves Road.

The view on the way in to Canal Rocks

A short walk from the carpark, and you're at the bridge. It's easy to access, however it is quite narrow so squeezing past people is a must. There was a couple visiting whilst I was there, and they were taking turns in jumping off of the bridge into the water, and then climbing up the rocks. Apparently, the water is deeper than it looks, but I'd exercise caution and not be following their lead. There appeared to be a strong current too. That said, it is a lovely spot, and there's a decent sized jetty where a few people were fishing from, just around the corner.

There's So Much More

There's so much more to see in the area. From amazing bush walks and hiking trails, to pristine beaches, stunning caves and a plethora of wineries / breweries / distilleries, not to mention all the family friendly venues and food! Spend some time down here, and I'm sure you'll love it!
